Vol. 121 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kanturk Flooding.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state whether a proposal was sanctioned by him in 1949 under the Local Authorities (Works) Act for the relief of flooding in Kanturk, County Cork; and, if so, why the local authority failed to comply with the terms of the proposal.

I assume that the Deputy is referring to a proposal to clean the Dalau River at Kanturk, which was submitted last year. I would refer him to the reply which I gave on 30th November last indicating that the work proposed could not be carried out owing to the high level of the river. I understand that the work will probably be undertaken in the near future.

In view of the unsatisfactory answer to this question it is my intention, with your permission, Sir, to raise the matter on the Adjournment.
