Vol. 121 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Salmon Fishing By-Laws.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will take such steps as are necessary to have rescinded the by-law prohibiting salmon fishing drift nets in Kenmare Bay since the removal of the prohibition would provide much-needed local employment for inshore fishermen.

The by-law referred to by the Deputy was made in 1913 following a public inquiry, and before ordering a similar inquiry into the possibility of revoking the by-law I would require to be furnished by the applicants with prima facie evidence that the use of drift nets in the tidal waters of the Kenmare fishery district would not be detrimental to the fisheries of the district as a whole.
