Vol. 121 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Acquisition and Division.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware of the congestion which exists in the different estates in Glenamaddy and Creggs, County Galway; and, if so, if he will state what steps have been taken to acquire lands for the relief of the uneconomic holders therein.

I have nothing further to add to my reply to the Deputy's question of 21st February last regarding this area.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the reason for the delay in the subdivision of the lands of Dr. T. B. Costello and Mr. T. O'Brien at Briarforth on the Isabella Hawe estate and of the lands of Mr. Rabbitte of Crowhill, Record No. 9367.

There is no avoidable delay in this case.

Will the Minister state how long these lands are hanging fire? They have been in the hands of the Land Commission for a long time. They have been sublet time and again.

The Deputy's opinion may be that the land should have been allotted earlier, but the Deputy is not the Land Commission. It is a matter for the Land Commission to use their discretion in these cases. The Land Commission have no desire to keep land longer on their hands than is absolutely necessary. If their plan entails waiting to get other holdings or farms to get a scheme, that is their business and not the Deputy's.

Will the Minister state how long these lands have been on the hands of the Land Commission?

That is a separate question of which I should require notice.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state what progress has been made towards the acquisition of the Halvey lands at Kilkeerin, County Galway.

The Land Commission have decided not to take any action for the present for the acquisition of these lands.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state what steps have been taken by the Land Commission towards the acquisition of land on the D'Arcy estate, Newforest, County Galway.

The Land Commission have no proceedings for the acquisition of these lands but inquiries are being made.
