Vol. 121 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Postal Services.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether he is aware that facilities for a mid-day postal service are not afforded to certain streets in Cashel; and, if so, if he will arrange to have this service provided.

Owing to the small amount of correspondence which would be available for a second postal delivery in those parts of Cashel which do not at present enjoy this facility, I regret that the expense of providing a second delivery to those districts would not be justified.

Will the Minister say if he is aware that there are some very important business people and clergy in the area referred to and will he say if he will have further inquiries made in the matter with a view to giving them a second delivery?

I have pointed out to the Deputy that I am engaged at the present time in trying to give deliveries in areas where people have only three deliveries a week. There are only four business people in the district calling for their letters daily.

There are clergy living there also.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is now in a position to state when better postal facilities will be provided in Cloughbrack, Claremorris region.

The question of providing better postal facilities in the Cloughbrack area will be considered when the general reorganisation of the postal services in the Claremorris district is undertaken. I am not at present in a position to say when this will be done and I would refer the Deputy to the answer given on the 15th March last on the same subject.
