Vol. 121 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tipperary Housing.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the reasons for the delay in the erection of 14 houses in Altavilla, and four houses in Cahir Abbey, to satisfy the need for housing accommodation in those areas in view of the fact that the necessary lands were purchased for this purpose by the local authority over two years ago.

I presume that the Deputy is referring to the 14-house scheme at Cashel Road and the six-house scheme at Upper Abbey Street, Cahir, for which plans have been approved. I understand that tenders have been invited for these schemes and work should commence at an early date if satisfactory tenders are received. Legal difficulties arose in connection with the Compulsory Purchase Order in which the sites for the schemes were included. The sites were not purchased by the council over two years ago; it was only in May, 1949, that the council were empowered to acquire the sites.
