Vol. 121 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Store Street Building.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will give an assurance to Dáil Éireann that the health of the staff of his Department will not be endangered by his proposal to utilise the Store Street building as office accommodation for 1,100 persons notwithstanding the fact that the office portion of that building was planned and constructed to accommodate an office staff of not more than 800 persons and if he will further assure the Dáil that no objection to this proposed overcrowding has been made to him by or on behalf of the staff of his Department.

The assurance sought that the health of the staff will not be endangered by the transfer to the new building at Store Street is given readily for the reason that, as regards lighting, ventilation and other factors bearing directly on staff health, the proposed standards will be appreciably higher than the standards generally obtaining in the different Dublin offices in which the staff is at present housed.

There will be no question of overcrowding of staff in the new building, and the staff representatives will be given an opportunity of expressing their views on the allocation of the accommodation.

The ventilation on the ground floor should be excellent.

All these matters are now in safe hands.
