Vol. 121 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Rural Electrification.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state when the extension of rural electrification to the Ballyhooly, Kilworth and Mitchelstown areas will be completed.

I am informed by the Electricity Supply Board that Ballyhooly area has been canvassed under the rural electrification scheme and was considered for selection in March last but was not chosen for development since the canvass showed results which compared unfavourably with those for other areas. A further canvass has since been made the results of which will again be considered by the board next month. It is not possible to indicate at this stage whether the area will then be selected.

I am also informed, as regards Mitchelstown, that a canvass is at present in progress and that the area will be considered for selection towards the end of the year.

In the case of Kilworth, it appears that no request for the extension of rural supply has yet been received by the board from any representative committee in that area. Such a request, accompanied by a memorial of householders willing to take supply, is the normal procedure in advancing the area to the stage when it can, in the first instance, be considered by the board.
