Vol. 122 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Kerry Housing Situation.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state whether only 20 houses have been built in County Kerry in the past two years, and, if so, whether, in view of this very unsatisfactory rate of progress, he will state what steps he proposes to take to ensure that the large number of people at present living in insanitary houses in Kerry will be provided with decent homes in the near future.

I am aware that the number of houses completed in the post-war period in County Kerry is small. The county council, however, have now available sites for more than 300 cottages for which plans have been prepared. It should, therefore, be possible for the council to achieve an immediate expansion of their building work. I propose to continue my efforts for the elimination of the difficulties which have retarded the house-building programme in Kerry up to the present.
