Vol. 122 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Electricity for Connemara.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if it is the intention of the Electricity Supply Board to extend its service to West Connemara; and, if so, when the work of extension is likely to be undertaken.

I am informed by the Electricity Supply Board that it is their intention to consider the West Connemara area for the supply of electricity under the rural electrification scheme. Development under the scheme throughout the country is proceeding as rapidly as possible but the board find it necessary to give preference in selection to those areas showing the best financial returns, which are usually the areas in the proximity of suitable supply points. The West Connemara area and many others are not favourably situated in relation to supply points and the board do not expect to be in a position to make an examination of the West Connemara area for some time.
