Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Traffic Control Duties.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state the average number of Gardaí engaged on traffic control duties in the Dublin Metropolitan area.

Forty-three Guards, of whom 26 are pointsmen, are engaged whole-time on foot on traffic control duties, and 48 Guards are employed part-time in enforcing traffic bylaws, regulating pedestrian traffic at peak periods and controlling traffic at school crossings. In addition, two traffic patrol cars, each manned by a driver and observer, operate continuously from 8 a.m. to midnight and seven crime patrol cars are employed on traffic patrols for about three hours daily during the peak periods.
