Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Traffic Accidents.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state the number of traffic accidents reported to the Gardaí since 1st January last, the numbers of persons killed and injured in such accidents, and the corresponding figures for 1949, 1948 and 1938; and if he will further state the number of traffic accidents on the Dublin-Bray road reported to the Gardaí since 1st January last, the numbers of persons killed and injured in such accidents, and the corresponding figures for 1949, 1948 and 1938.

The answer to this question is in the form of a tabular statement, which, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, will appear in the Official Report.

* The 30th June is the latest date to which figures are readily available.

†In 1938, it was the practice of the Garda to record every accident reported to them irrespective of the extent of the damage caused. In recent years minor collisions causing only trivial damage are not recorded.

‡Records of accidents on the Dublin-Bray Road for 1938 are not available.
