Vol. 123 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rural Electrification in County Cork.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state when the Electricity Supply Board intend to proceed with rural electrification in the Carrignavar/Glenville area, County Cork.

I am informed by the Electricity Supply Board that the Carrignavar/Glenville rural area has been considered by the board for development on several occasions, but was not selected as the ratio of fixed charge revenue to the estimated capital cost of construction was not sufficiently high.

The area will again be considered for development before the end of the present year but it is not possible to forecast the result.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state whether the canvass of the Banteer-Castlemagner area, County Cork, has been completed by the Electricity Supply Board; and, if so, if he will state whether the result of the canvass justifies the selection of that area for an early extension of the rural electrification scheme.

I am informed by the Electricity Supply Board that the Banteer-Castlemagner rural area has been considered by the board for selection on a number of occasions but, as the proportion of fixed charge revenue to estimated capital cost was not sufficiently high, the area was not selected. The area will be considered again for development before the end of the year but no indication can be given as to whether it will qualify for selection.
