Vol. 123 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mitchelstown Home Assistance Officer.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare whether he is aware that the home assistance officer for Mitchelstown dispensary area is residing in Ballykenley which is approximately 12 miles from the outer limit of his district, and that this is not conducive to good administration, especially in view of the fact that the town of Mitchelstown with a population of 2,300 people is approximately six miles from the officer's house, and whether he is further aware that within the past month, at least three applicants for home assistance were not able to contact the officer for immediate benefit, and finally, if he will state what action he proposes to take in the circumstances.

The question of the place of residence of an assistance officer is primarily a matter for the appropriate public assistance authority. The county manager has been asked for a report on the points raised in the question and when his reply is received I will have the Deputy informed of the position.
