Vol. 123 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Emigration from Connemara.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware of the very high rate of emigration from Connemara, and if he will state when the Government intends to provide work for the people of that area.

I am not aware that the rate of emigration from Connemara shows any tendency to increase. The consequences, however, of endemic emigration in the past from certain western areas have been a cause of concern to the Government and practical proposals are at present being considered with a view to co-ordinating a variety of measures for the development of the natural resources of these areas to the fullest possible extent.
