Vol. 123 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Acquisition and Division.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state what steps, if any, have been taken by the Land Commission to acquire, for division amongst the large number of immediately adjoining congests, the lands of Castlecrine, Sixmilebridge, formerly the Butler estate, containing 525 acres and which have been advertised for sale in English newspapers.

The Land Commission are having an inspection made of this estate.

asked the Minister for Lands if the Land Commission have decided to acquire the estate of Wilson-Lynch at Belvoir, Sixmilebridge; and, if so, what is the present position.

No decision has been taken on the question of the acquisition of this estate.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the holdings, indicating the area in each case, which the Land Commission have on hands or have decided to acquire in County Clare during the current year.

There are 2,559 acres on hands on 47 estates and holdings in County Clare. Proceedings are in progress for the acquisition or resumption of 2,044 acres on 28 estates or holdings. It is not possible to indicate when these proceedings will be completed.

There are difficulties and objections in the way of supplying, in respect of each individual area on hands, the detailed information requested.

asked the Minister for Lands if portion of the holding of Messrs. F. and W. Burke, comprising 61 acres on the estate of Daly, Record No. S. 3736, lands of Hillswood, County Galway, has yet come into the possession of the Land Commission; and, of not, if he will state what progress, if any, has been made in the matter since his reply to a question on the subject on 15th February, 1950.

The Land Commission have not yet taken possession of these lands. There is a legal difficulty involved in this case which will take some time to resolve.

Can the Minister indicate when it is likely that possession will be taken of the lands, in view of its long history and the special claim for priority? This case has been going on since about 1926.

I have nothing to add to the reply I have given the Deputy.
