Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Transfer of Sub-Post Offices.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when the order or regulation was made confining the transfer without advertisement of sub-post offices to the sons or daughters of holders of the office.

The regulations governing transfer of sub-office appointments were revised in December, 1948. Under the revised regulations, provided certain conditions are complied with, transfers may be made not only to the son or daughter, but also to the husband, wife, brother, sister, widower or widow of the outgoing sub-postmaster.

Why were they revised?

They were revised in December, 1948.

I asked why were they revised.

If you ask my predecessor he will be able to give you the information.

I have no explanation of it whatever.

I will explain to the Deputy to-night, if necessary.

Mr. Brennan
