Vol. 123 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Agricultural Incomes.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state (1) the net agricultural income for the last year for which figures are available; (2) the annual net income per person gainfully employed in agriculture; and (3) the net income per acre of agricultural land.

The statistics of net agricultural income are not yet available but the estimated value of net agricultural output (i.e., the value of gross output less cost of feeding stuffs, fertilisers and seeds) for 1949, the last year for which such figures are available, was £110,476,000. In the absence of up-to-date particulars of the number of females employed in agriculture, the average net output per person cannot be stated but the net output per male returned as engaged in farm work on 1st June for that year was £229. The net output per statute acre of agricultural land in 1949 was £9 11s. Od.
