Vol. 123 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Decentralisation of Offices.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the number of companies having their registered offices in Dublin whose principal works or spheres of activity are outside County Dublin, and if he will discourage this practice by refusing registration in such instances, if necessary by the introduction of proposals for legislation for this purpose in view of the denial of office positions that it entails to residents in the areas where works, etc., are situated and in view of the tendency to drift to the capital which the centralisation of many head offices in that city encourages.

I regret that the information for which the Deputy has asked in the first part of his question is not available. Even if the situation is such as that indicated by the Deputy, I do not consider that the public interest is affected adversely to the extent necessary to justify action on the lines suggested.
