Vol. 123 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Millisson Tenancy.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware that the Tipperary county manager by order dated 14th September, 1950, appointed Mr. John Kenny, of Poynstown, New Birmingham, tenant of a new cottage at Millisson, New Birmingham, and by order dated the 20th October, 1950, revoked the September order and appointed Mr. Michael Kelly, of Clonoura, New Birmingham, as tenant of the cottage; whether he is also aware that the original appointee is a married man at present living in a farmer's barn with his wife and five young children whose ages range from six months to six years, and that Mr. Michael Kelly, who is also married, has only two adult children, one of whom is in England; and, further, if he will have investigated the reasons for (a) the order of the 14th September, 1950, appointing Mr. Kenny as tenant, and (b) the order of 20th October, 1950, revoking the September order and appointing Mr. Kelly as tenant, and give the result of his investigations.

I understand that the case in question was decided by the county manager in the light of legal opinion obtained by him in regard to the interpretation of the regulations governing the letting of cottages. I am, however, having the matter further examined and will write to the Deputy in due course.

Is the Minister aware that the person who is now the tenant of the cottage in question is unquestionably the right person to occupy it, that he is a genuine agricultural worker, that the manager acted in accordance with the regulations laid down by the Minister himself and that the allegations contained in the Deputy's question are unfounded?

The information supplied to me is that the tenancy was decided in conformity with the regulations governing the letting of cottages. As I stated, however, I am having the matter further examined.

It was not the local Fianna Fáil group that made up the manager's mind?

That is all changed since you wiped us off the map at the local elections.
