Precise information as to the number of persons who pay unemployment insurance contributions in a particular period is not available, but estimates of the number employed, based on the amounts received from the sales of unemployment insurance stamps, are made in respect of calendar years. The average number of persons employed per week in the calendar years 1946, 1947, 1948 and 1949 in occupations insurable under the Unemployment Insurance Acts, estimated in this way, is as follows: 1946, 285,200; 1947, 304,200; 1948, 319,700; 1949, 341,300.
The total amount paid in each year by way of unemployment insurance contributions, based also on sales of stamps, was as follows: 1946, £1,065,585; 1947, £1,134,520; 1948, £1,253,935; 1949, £1,554,607.
These figures do not include amounts received by way of arrears.
asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state the total number of weekly contributions paid under the National Health and Widows' and Orphans' Pensions Acts for each of the four years ending on 30th June, 1950, in respect of the categories (a) agricultural male; (b) agricultural female; (c) others male; (d) others female.
