Vol. 123 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Aran Sub-Post Office.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state whether there was an applicant for an appointment as sub-postmistress at Kilmurvey, Aran, who had long experience in charge of a sub-office and in support of whose application the people of Kilmurvey petitioned his Department; and, further, whether the post office has now been located in a licensed premises.

One of the unsuccessful applicants for the position of sub-postmaster at Kilmurvey, Aran, was employed during the years 1935-1941 as an assistant at a sub-post office by her mother who was the sub-postmistress. A memorial from a number of local residents was received on behalf of that applicant.

The sub-post office at Kilmurvey is not located in a licensed premises.

Is the Minister not aware that the person who was appointed is the wife of the proprietor of a licensed hotel?

The information I have from the authorities is that she has not a licensed premises. The person appointed has eight young children.
