Vol. 123 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Civil Service Death Gratuities.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will consider, if necessary, by the introduction of proposals for legislation, lowering to seven years the period of service of a civil servant necessary before a gratuity may be paid on his death.

The present expenditure on superannuation and noneffective services is so considerable that I am unwilling to agree that any further additional expenditure should be undertaken. I regret, therefore, that I cannot entertain the suggestion made by the Deputy.
