Vol. 123 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Repair of Accommodation Road.

asked the Minister for Finance if an estimate has been made of the cost of repairing an accommodation road in the townlands of Coologues and Meelick, E.D. Kilgarvan; and, if so, the amount of the State grant and the amount of the local contribution.

Grants were offered on two occasions for the repair of this road, in February, 1949, and in July, 1950. The estimated cost of the work in July, 1950, was £133, towards which, under the revised terms of the Rural Improvements Scheme, a State grant of £110 10s. 0d. was offered, subject to a local contribution of £22 10s., but the representative of the applicants stated that they were not in a position to make any contribution. Since July, 1950, wages payable on Rural Improvement Schemes have increased, and as the representative stated that the road was recently damaged by flooding, the estimate of £133 would not now be sufficient to execute the necessary work.

I am not in a position to make any grant available unless the applicants inform my office that they are prepared to make a contribution towards the revised cost of the scheme.
