Vol. 124 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Annagry Factory.

asked the Minister for Lands if he has satisfied himself that his Department have not had ample opportunity and time for the due consideration of the nature of the industry to be established in Annagry factory, County Donegal, and if he will make a statement in the matter.

Unavailing efforts were made to locate a new industry for establishment at Annagry and the question of setting up an extension of an existing Gaeltacht industry was considered. The present world scarcity of raw materials and machinery has worsened the position and any extention of an existing industry could not be undertaken without curtailing the output of the parent factory and, perhaps, jeopardising the whole industry. The establishment of a factory at Annagry would not be justifiable unless the supply position improves sufficiently to ensure its satisfactory working.
