Vol. 124 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Emigration Statistics.

Mr. Brady

asked the Taoiseach if he will state the number of persons seeking employment who emigrated to (1) Great Britain; (2) U.S.A. and (3) other countries during each of the years 1947, 1948, 1949 and 1950 distinguishing between persons from rural and from urban areas.

The only relevant statistics available are those relating to the numbers of new travel permits and passports. I propose, therefore, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to circulate in the Official Report a statement containing the available information on this basis.

Following is the statement:—
