Vol. 124 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Road Grant.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state why the road grant for Dublin county is about £33,000 as compared with much larger sums made available to other county councils.

The Deputy has apparently in mind the special grants for improvement of main and county roads. These grants are distributed among county councils on a mileage basis which is considered to be the most equitable method of distribution. On this basis the allocation of £33,000 represents the proportionate share of Dublin county.

I would remind the Deputy that in addition to the improvement grants, county councils also receive grants amounting to 40 per cent. of approved expenditure on the upkeep of main roads. In County Dublin this grant amounts to £33,858 in respect of expenditure on works being carried out in the current financial year.
