Vol. 124 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Provision of New Schools.

asked the Minister for Education if he will now state when construction of the proposed new school for Killahan, Abbeydorney, County Kerry, is likely to commence.

A suitable site has been offered for a new school, but arrangements in connection with the production of evidence of title to the site have still to be made before the question of sanctioning a grant from State funds towards the cost of the new school can be considered.

In the circumstances I am unable to say, at this stage, when work on the erection of the new school will be commenced, but every effort will be made to have the case expedited.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state when the proposed new national school will be erected at Glantane, Lombardstown, County Cork.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state the progress that has been made in connection with the plans, etc., for the erection of the new school at Glantane, Mallow, County Cork, and when work is likely to commence.

With your permission, a Chinn Chomhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 10 and 11 together.

I understand from the Commissioners of Public Works that the working drawings and specification for the new school have been prepared, but that bills of quantities will have to be drawn up before tenders are invited. The commissioners will be in a position to have the preparation of bills of quantities put in hands when an official lease, vesting the site of the new school in trustees, has been executed. It is expected that the lease will be completed at an early date.

Although it is not possible to say, at present, when work on the erection of the new school will be commenced, there will be no avoidable delay in completing the arrangements which I have mentioned.
