Vol. 124 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Kerry Turbary.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will indicate the total acreage of turbary that has been acquired and divided in Kerry North and Kerry South, respectively, since the 18th February, 1948.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I will take together Questions Nos. 23 and 24.

County Kerry is treated as a unit for Land Commission purposes and, as the records do not distinguish between North and South Kerry, I can only give the particulars for the entire county.

During the period in question four non-turbary estates or holdings, comprising 370 acres, were acquired and 567 acres of land, as distinct from turbary, were allotted on 20 estates. Turbary over 798 acres was also acquired and 879 acres were allotted. In addition, some 2,000 acres of turbary on tenanted holdings were allocated to 950 tenants under turbary regulations.
