Vol. 124 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Social Welfare Information Officer.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state (i) what arrangements were made for the payment of salary to the information officer in the Department of Social Welfare during the period from 1st May, 1942, to 29th October, 1948, when he was not working for the State; (ii) the rates at which salary was paid to this officer in each of the financial years ending 31st March, 1943 to 1949, respectively, and (iii) whether this officer's period of service from 1st May, 1942, to 29th October, 1948, will count in due course for the purpose of computing his pension.

The information requested by the Deputy is as follows:—

(i) the officer concerned was granted special leave with pay during the period of his secondment to act as Secretary to the Civil Service Executive and Higher Officers' Association. His salary was, accordingly, paid by his Department in the normal way. As an exceptional arrangement, in view of its weak financial position, the Association was allowed to have the officers' services for a flat contribution at the rate of £250 per annum as from 1st May, 1942, to 31st December, 1945, and £300 a year subsequently;

(ii) salary payments to this officer for each of the financial years ended 31st March, 1943 to 1949 amounted to:—
