Vol. 124 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drainage Scheme Workers.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state whether he will arrange for an increase in wages for the workers employed on the Brosna drainage scheme, and on other similar drainage works, and when it is proposed to have such increase granted; and if arrangements will be made to have the increased rates of pay paid without delay.

The wage rates of men employed on arterial drainage work are reviewed from time to time as occasion arises. The wages of labourers and other classes employed on the arterial drainage schemes at present in operation—namely, the Brosna and the Glyde and Dee—were increased as recently as September, 1950, and further increases are not at the moment in contemplation.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that as from 1st April next the rates of wages for road workers in the same county and for forestry workers are being increased by 6/- a week? Will he take that into consideration in connection with this matter?

What is the total amount?

Who is asking whom?
