Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cattle Hides and Sheep Pelts.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state (a) the number of cattle killed in Éire in each month from August, 1950; (b) the number of hides received by the tanneries during the same period; (c) the number of sheep killed during that period, and (d) the number of pelts received by the tanneries during these months.

The precise information requested by the Deputy is not available. The estimated number of cattle and calves slaughtered in Ireland in the third and fourth quarters of 1950 was 54,000 and 108,000, respectively. The corresponding figures for sheep and lambs slaughtered were 155,000 and 170,000.

Information is not yet available regarding the numbers of hides or pelts received by the tanneries during 1950.
