Vol. 124 No. 12

Committee on Finance. - Vote 68—General Register Office.

I move:—

That a supplementary sum not exceeding £600 be granted to defray the Charge which will come in course of payment during the year ended the 31st day of March, 1951, for the salaries and expenses of the office of the Registrar General of Births, etc.

The original Estimate provided for a gross expenditure of £27,755, less anticipated receipts totalling £9,215 from app lications from the public for searches and for certificates of births, deaths and marriages. App lications for birth and marriage certificates required in connection with migration to Britain and the U.S.A. have been less than expected, and this will entail a loss in receipts of £850. The loss will be partly offset by a saving of £250 on sub-head A, salaries, leaving a net total deficiency of £600.

Question put and agreed to.
Progress reported; Committee to sit again.
