Vol. 124 No. 13

Committee on Finance. - Court officers Bill, 1950—Final Stages.

Question proposed: "That the Bill be received for final consideration."

Would the Minister explain the point about the extension of the age to 70?

As my predecessor and I promised, we went into the matter to see if it was possible for us to bring it into the Bill, and I regret to say that it is not possible to meet the Deputies on the point.

Is it the position now that they can be extended to 70?

They can, certainly.

Question put and agreed to.
Question proposed: "That the Bill do now pass."

There were certain amendments which the Minister was to bring in. I take it that he will bring them in as a special Bill later on?

There will be no amendments required to carry out what I am hoping to be able to do in relation to District Court clerks, in regard to both the definition of whole-time and years of service.

Question put and agreed to.
