Vol. 125 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Exempted Commodities.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the commodities which have been exempted from the Prices and Charges (Standstill) Order, 1951, since 22nd January, 1951, and in each case whether the commodity concerned is now free from control; and, if not, the nature of the control applying to it.

I would refer the Deputy to the commodities specified in the Schedule to the Prices and Charges (Standstill) Order, 1951 (Amendment) (No. 4) Order, 1951, which have been substituted for those specified in the Schedule to the Prices and Charges (Standstill) Order, 1951. The commodities included in the Schedule to the Prices and Charges (Standstill) Order, 1951, which are not included in the Schedule to the amending Order, have been exempted from the provisions of the standstill Order in the period from the 22nd January, 1951, to date. Since the date of the No. 4 amending Order, biscuits, sausages and sausage meat, black and white puddings, sausage casings and gut have been removed from the amended Schedule.

The prices of all commodities, whether covered by the standstill Order or not, are, however, kept under review by the Prices Advisory Body and, where considered necessary, are controlled either by specific Price Orders, by special arrangements with the individual firms concerned, or by control of profits.
