Vol. 125 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Capital Advances to Bord na Móna.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state why capital advances to Bord na Móna under the Turf Development Acts in the financial year 1950-51 were less by almost £500,000 than the amount estimated at the beginning of the financial year to be required.

The estimate of advances furnished by Bord na Móna in respect of the financial year 1950-51 contained provisions in respect of anticipated expenditure on housing and on the purchase of additional machines and material for the construction of bog railways. Consideration of the board's proposals in connection with the housing scheme was not completed in time to enable the work of construction to commence as early as was anticipated and delay in obtaining delivery of machinery and railway equipment was responsible for under expenditure as compared with the estimate under these headings.
