Vol. 125 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dead Poultry Exports.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will indicate the position with regard to the marketing of dead poultry under the following heads:—(a) the quantity exported each year; (b) the centres to which exports are sent, and (c) the possibilities of obtaining alternative markets.

(a) The Deputy will find particulars of the quantity of poultry exported each year in the trade statistics compiled by the Central Statistics Office. I may inform him, however, that 225,000 cwts. of poultry were exported in 1950 and 239,000 cwts. in 1949; (b) all our poultry is at present exported to Great Britain; (c) the prices at present procurable on the British market are satisfactory and we shall continue to market our supplies there so long as this situation is maintained.

Orders for our poultry from other sources are and will continue to be examined on their merits, with the producers in this country primarily in mind.
