Vol. 125 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - McDonnell Estate—Relief of Congestion.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that the lands on the McDonnell estate, Boyounagh and Middleton, Glenamaddy, County Galway, and which are now in the possession of the Land Commission, have been set to the local congests at prices up to £15 per acre pending division; and, if so, whether he will state why it is the policy of the Land Commission to hold over the rearrangement and division of lands in their possession in congested areas and obtain exorbitant prices in letting them to the local land-hungry tenants.

The position is not as indicated in either part of the question.

Is the Minister aware that I can give him the figures for each allotment? The two highest prices were £15 per acre, and in another estate the price was as high as £20 per acre for land set by the Land Commission in conacre.

In this particular case the lands were not let at £15 per acre or at a price even near that. The Deputy has been misinformed if he has been told that.

That is the information I have.

I will direct an inquiry into it again.
