Vol. 125 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Acquisition.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state what is the present position regarding the acquisition of the farm of Dr. Daly, Creevagh North, Ballinrobe, County Mayo, by the Land Commission.

The Land Commission obtained possession of this estate a short time ago.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the position regarding the acquisition by the Land Commission of the large farm of land owned by Mr. Garratt Nally, Roundfort, Hollymount, County Mayo.

The Land Commission have obtained possession of Mr. Nally's lands.

In view of the fact that this is a very large estate, I would ask the Minister to recommend to the Land Commission that the congests living in close proximity to this estate should be guaranteed first consideration by the Land Commission when these lands are being divided.

That is the invariable rule and practice of the Land Commission and will be followed up in this particular case. Local congestion is always relieved first before any consideration is given to migrants, if there are any to be brought in.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state whether the Land Commission are negotiating for the purchase of the farm of Mrs. Kelly, Churchfield, Knock, Claremorris, County Mayo.

The Land Commission have no proceedings in respect of these lands.

I think the Minister is aware that in this case the owner had this place up for sale by public auction. I think it would be the duty of the Land Commission to purchase this estate because there is congestion in the area and I am reliably informed that it would not be hard to negotiate a price. Would the Minister investigate the matter and recommend that course to the Land Commission?

I will bring the Deputy's remarks to the notice of the Land Commission.
