Vol. 125 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cruelty to Horses.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether, in view of reports of extreme cruelty suffered by live horses exported for meat abroad, he will prohibit this trade in live horse flesh.

There are no grounds for suggesting that extreme cruelty is suffered by horses exported. I would refer the Deputy to the comprehensive reply given by me on the 8th June, 1948, to questions on this subject by Deputy Cowan and Deputy Lynch. There is nothing further which I can usefully add to that reply.
