Vol. 125 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Agricultural Valuations.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state the number of holdings in the Republic with valuation (a) under £10; (b) under £21 10s. 0d.; (c) over £50, and (d) higher than £80.

Whilst the exact number of agricultural holdings in each of the valuation classifications mentioned are not available for a recent date, it is estimated that the number of holdings in each of these classifications on 1st June, 1949, was as follows:—

Not exceeding £10 in valuation

210,000 Holdings.

Above £10 but not exceeding £21 10s. 0d. in valuation

80,000 ,,

,, £50 but not exceeding £80 in valuation

15,000 ,,

Above £80 in valuation

17,000 ,,

In view of the fact that the Parliamentary Secretary says that roughly 210,000 people are expected to exist on holdings not exceeding £10 in valuation, will he direct the serious attention of the Minister for Lands to that position?

That is a separate question.
