Dáil Éireann debate -
Tuesday, 17 Apr 1951

Vol. 125 No. 6

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take business as on the Order Paper— No. 1 (Votes 27 and 28).

On Thursday last the Taoiseach indicated that time would be available to-day to continue the discussion arising out of the statement made by Deputy Dr. Browne in Dáil Éireann. I give notice now—I think probably it would be the correct procedure—that I shall move the Adjournment at whatever time the Taoiseach considers suitable for the purpose of continuing the debate.

I am not sure that the Deputy would be in order in doing so but I shall facilitate him in any way possible.

I can only accept notice to move the Adjournment from a Minister.

Then I shall do that in order to facilitate the Deputy to get in. I shall carry out the undertaking I gave last week. I do not know how long Deputies want to prolong the debate but I think if I moved the Adjournment at 9 o'clock it would be sufficient.

I think if the Taoiseach said 7.30 it would probably give an opportunity to have the matter concluded to-night.

If the Adjournment were moved at 8 o'clock it would give three hours. However, I shall not haggle over it. I shall move the Adjournment at 7.30.

May I take it that the Chair will consider the fact that I was in possession when the debate was adjourned on Thursday?

The Chair will take every reasonable matter into consideration.
