Vol. 125 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Civil Defence Installations.

Major de Valera

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state the total quantity of cement estimated to be required for the provision of shelters and other civil defence installations which would be needed in the City of Dublin in the event of an emergency and whether any steps have been taken to ensure that this quantity will be available when required.

The general position regarding supplies of essential commodities is under consideration by my Department in common with other Departments with a view to coordinating arrangements for obtaining and allocating such commodities.

Major de Valera

Does the answer which the Minister has given and which is difficult to relate to the question asked mean that cement is also under consideration?

Major de Valera

I take it the Minister is aware of the peculiar urgency and also the peculiar difficulties to be anticipated in regard to the question of cement and will the Minister give that problem specific consideration?

If I stored it now, what would I have when I required it?

Major de Valera

I did not make any suggestion about storing.

It can only be stored for a certain length of time.

What we are badly in need of is productive capacity.
