Vol. 125 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fire-fighting Equipment.

Major de Valera

asked the Minister for Defence whether any reserves of fire-fighting equipment for distribution to fire-fighting and civil defence organisations in Dublin City in the event of an emergency are at present available, over and above the normal equipment already held by the various fire brigades throughout the country.

The fire pumps and equipment which had previously been obtained for A.R.P. use have been maintained. While they have been distributed to local authorities for peace-time use, they are available for recall and redistribution in connection with civil defence requirements. Provision has been made in the Estimates for the current financial year for the purchase of a number of the most up-to-date type of civil defence fire-fighting appliances and inquiries have been made as to the availability of such equipment.

Major de Valera

The position therefore is that as far as Dublin is concerned there is nothing available at the moment except what is on issue and that there is some further equipment on order?

The Deputy cannot take any such opinion from what I told him.

Major de Valera

The difficulty is to know what opinion to take from what you told us.
