Vol. 125 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kelly Estate—County Roscommon.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state whether the Land Commission have yet prepared a scheme for the division of the Kelly estate, Carrownageelaun, Tulsk, County Roscommon, including the turbary rights; and, if so, when the scheme is likely to be put into operation.

A scheme for the allotment of this estate has not yet been prepared.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that there are quite a large number of uneconomic holdings in the vicinity of this estate, and that, in connection with the turbary rights, there is need for a scheme for the development of the bog that is there, especially in view of the necessity for increasing turf production at the present time? Will the Parliamentary Secretary not take steps to see that the Land Commission will prepare a scheme for this particular bog and for the division of the estate as soon as possible?

The trouble, of course, is that the Land Commission have to deal with the whole estate. The estate was only taken over in March, 1950. At the moment, the Land Commission are working under very high pressure in Roscommon. They expect in the next few months to be able to carry out the scheme.
