Vol. 125 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Examination of Blind Pensioners.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will have arrangements made to enable applicants for blind pensions in the Cahirciveen area to be examined locally instead of having to travel to Tralee.

The Deputy is, no doubt, aware that, by arrangement with the Department of Health, claimants for blind pensions are examined by county ophthalmic surgeons employed by the local authority. This examination usually takes place at the county hospital. Representations have, however, been made by me to the Department of Health as to the desirability of the local authority making arrangements for the examination being carried out at Cahirciveen in appropriate cases.
