Vol. 125 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Military Equipment.

asked the Minister for Defence whether any efforts have been made in recent months to procure military equipment from the U.S.A; and, if so, whether he will state what success attended those efforts.

As stated by my predecessor in reply to a supplementary question by Deputy Major de Valera on the 7th March last, the possibilities of obtaining military equipment from different countries, including the U.S.A., are being explored, and I am hopeful that we will meet with some success.

Will the Minister state whether in the last few months, since the reply to the supplementary question by Deputy Vivion de Valera was given, any representations were made by this Government, or by its representatives, to the United States to make available war-like stores?

I have told the Deputy that the matter is at present being explored, and that the answer is "yes".

Has any satisfaction been got?

The answer is "no".

They have not got enough arms for themselves in Korea.
