Vol. 125 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Transport of Turf (Valentia).

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that the turf banks in Valentia Island are practically worn out, thus creating a scarcity of fuel in the island, while hundreds of acres of bog lie undeveloped on the mainland; and if so, if he will investigate the possibility of making special arrangements for the transport of turf from the mainland to this island of 1,200 inhabitants.

I am not aware that the turf banks position in Valentia Island is as stated by the Deputy nor do I consider it necessary to make special arrangements for the transport of turf to that island.
