Vol. 125 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Feale Catchment Area.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is now in a position to state when work will commence under the Arterial Drainage Acts on the Feale catchment area.

I indicated in reply to a similar question in February last that work on this scheme would commence early in the coming summer. I am now in a position to give more precise information. All the preliminary statutory requirements have been completed, and the scheme is about to be submitted to the Minister for Finance for confirmation in accordance with the requirements of the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945. I expect to commence the transport to the site of heavy excavating machinery and ancillary plant within the next few days. Sufficient machinery will have arrived and have been erected in time to permit of the start of actual digging operations by June. The formal opening of the scheme will take place about a month later.
