Vol. 125 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Television Facilities.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether, in view of the television demonstration advertised to coincide with the Dublin Spring Show, he will state whether it is his intention in the near future to establish a television transmitter in any part of the Republic; and, if so, whether any contracts or undertakings have been given to any individual concern, or group of concerns, in connection with the setting up, establishment and maintenance of such a transmitting station, or stations; or for a system of wired relay from a single station.

It is not the intention of my Department to establish a television service in the near future in any part of the country. The queries in the latter part of the question about contracts and undertakings in connection with a television transmitting station or a relay station do not, therefore, arise.

I should mention that the television demonstrations referred to in the question are being undertaken by a radio manufacturing organisation on its own initiative and that they have no official connection.
