Vol. 125 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Acquisition and Division.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware of the many uneconomic holdings which surround Baltrasna (O'Reilly) estate at Oldcastle, County Meath, the owner of which lives outside the country, and that very little employment is given on the estate, and whether, in view of the great benefit which the division of the estate would bestow on the small uneconomic holders in the area, the Land Commission will take action at an early date to have the estate acquired for division.

There are two O'Reilly estates in Baltrasna which have been noted for inspection by the Land Commission. The estate of John Fee, also in Baltrasna, appears to be known locally as the "O'Reilly" estate, so perhaps this is the case the Deputy has in mind, though I understand that Mr. Fee resides on the lands. The Land Commission decided not to acquire Mr. Fee's estate.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the cause of the delay in vesting the remaining holdings on the Molloy estate, Mullagh, Kilcock, which is now nearly 20 years divided.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the cause of the delay in vesting the remaining holdings on the Drumlargan estate at Drumlargan, Kilcock, which is now almost 25 years divided, and why the holdings are vested in small numbers over a period of years and not all vested simultaneously.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the cause of the delay in vesting the remaining holdings on the Doyne estate at Castlerichard, Longwood, Meath, which was divided more than 25 years ago and when it is likely these holdings will be vested.

I propose to take together Questions Nos. 13, 14 and 16.

The majority of the allotments on the estates in question have been vested, and there will be no avoidable delay in dealing with the outstanding cases.

There are varying difficulties in individual instances in the way of vesting, and it is the practice to vest according as these difficulties are removed.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the reason for the delay in having the Griffin estate, Farranamanagh, Knockroe, Golden, divided.

With the exception of one parcel, this estate has been allotted.

Will the Minister state the reason, if any, why cottiers on and near this estate — and they are of a most industrious type — were excluded from this particular division?

There is nothing about that in the question.

The Deputy has asked a separate question.
